In addition to being better than the Netherlands at pretty much everything, today Australia will set the world record for the longest period of growth without a recession, surpassing the former record holder Netherlands. 26 years. I'm going to wear my going out clogs today.

There's not a great deal to crow about the longest period of growth without a recession unless you are among the one percenters. Almost all of the period's benefits accrued to them. Wages have not kept up with the (admittedly low) inflation rates and recently there were huge, nationwide cuts in overtime rates. Guess who suffers most from them. As far as the workers are concerned they can at best be glad to have a finger lobbed off rather than an arm.

Basically sustained by China's booming demand for our dirt. And rising house prices which have allowed home owners to go into stratospheric levels of personal debt to prop up consumption. About the only period of good economic management happened with Labor through the GFC.
