Father: ‘Skunk caused my son to cut off his penis’

A man whose son cut off his penis and repeatedly stabbed his mother while high on skunk – a strong strain of cannabis – has spoken exclusively to BBC Radio 5 live about the dangers of the illegal drug.

The father, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Emma Barnett that his son had been a "bright, witty, rugby-playing lad" before he started taking drugs aged 16.
The young man still needs surgery for his injuries. He has spent time in prison and in a psychiatric unit.

His mother made a full recovery.

The father is supporting a campaign by the peer Lord Monson, whose own son Rupert killed himself in January after becoming hooked on skunk.

Drugs don't act alike on Every consumer, there may be a real foundation to the reefer madness urban legend in people, who, like that boy, had a strongly negative reasction to weed... I bet there are similar incidents with every recreational, and quite a few medicinal, drugs... of course, you don't hear those about opioids because those are already known to be dangerous.

Skunk especially when reported in the press is a catchall term it originally referred to a specific cross between sativa and indica cannabis plants .
Yes some of the new varieties have high levels of THC. THC can bring on schizophrenia in affected people . When anecdotal claims about the dangers of "skunk" are bandied around
there is never mention of the modern varieties of cannabis that are specifically bred to be very low in THC but high in CBDs chemicals that have many medicinal effects .
