US Politics 2016

This includes Trump's first 100 days but there is lot more going on. Puppy dog Paul Ryan can hardly contain himself. His tail is constantly wagging.

What is the Democratic plan for resistance?

It's not going to be pretty:
WP
There are Republicans in Congress who believe Trump is so naive in the ways of Washington that he can be led around by the nose — that he will basically sign whatever the GOP majorities in the House and Senate choose to pass. Many of those who share this view also were confident that Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio would be the party’s nominee. Do they really expect Trump to suddenly be transformed into an orthodox Republican? I don’t.

Trump promised the ridiculous border wall, and I believe he will expect Congress to let him build it. He also promised punishment, such as targeted tariffs, for companies that move jobs overseas. He promised a trillion-dollar program to improve the nation’s infrastructure. He promised massive, budget-busting tax cuts for corporations, the wealthy and the middle class. He promised not only to repeal the Affordable Care Act but also to simultaneously replace it, vowing that those with pre-existing conditions will still be able to get health insurance.

Entertaining, though. I haven't been this interested in American politics since Clinton and Monica.

I like the idea of starting a 2016 politics thread with 11 days of 2016 remaining.
100% verifiable facts or your money back. Anti-fascist. Enemy of woo - theistic or otherwise. Cloth is not an antiviral. Imagination and fantasy is no substitute for tangible reality. Wishing doesn't make it real.

NY pushing right thru with Obamacare:
Getting people coverage will also help the city's ailing public hospital system, which is facing potential operating losses of $1.8 billion by fiscal year 2020, according to city officials.

"The cost to [NYC Health + Hospitals], since we serve everyone without regard for their ability to pay, that's a big chunk of what we lose every year against our bottom line," said Stanley Brezenoff, interim president and chief executive of the health system.

An estimated two-thirds of the 400,000 uninsured New Yorkers who visited NYC Health + Hospitals facilities in 2015 were eligible for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the mayor's office. Outreach workers will be targeting that group, in particular, as well as residents who live near the city's 11 public hospitals.

If the city succeeds in insuring 50,000 more in 2017, it will generate an estimated $40 million in additional revenue for NYC Health + Hospitals in 2018, according to the city's calculations.

About 1.6 million people in New York City had enrolled in health insurance through the state's Obamacare marketplace by the end of January 2016, accounting for 57% of the 2.8 million statewide total. The open enrollment period for 2017 ends January 31, but many of those the city is targeting will likely have incomes that qualify them for Medicaid or the state's heavily subsidized Essential Plan, which both allow for year-round sign-ups.
