More than half of Britons want to ban the burqa
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09 ... eral-elit/
More than half of Britons want to ban the burqa, despite what our preachy liberal elite would have you think
Britain's liberal elite has worked itself into a frenzy after French policemen sought to enforce the law on a beach in Nice. The moment, caught on camera, was a consequence of France's burkini ban, which they decided was not on.
But did they stop to ask what the general public thinks? Clearly not, as it turns out Britons tend not to share their outrage about the idea of curbing the wearing of Muslim clothing, be it a burkini swimsuit or the burqa full body-covering. A YouGov survey found that a majority of voters (57 per cent) supported banning the burqa in public places, while 25 per cent were against outlawing it.
They're similarly cautious about the burkini. 46 per cent of Britons supported banning people from wearing the Islamic swimsuit in public, markedly more than the 30 per cent who would oppose it.
This though hasn't stopped Britain's finger-wagging brigade from piling in though. Labour MP Cat Smith, a close ally of Jeremy Corbyn, decried France's "hideously offensive" ban, while Green Party leader Natalie Bennett concluded that the "Islamophobic" law was "a stain" on France. Women even protested outside the French embassy waving a sign saying: “Non Islamophobia. Oui aux burkinis.”
Female voters are even more opposed (albeit marginally), with 47 per cent expressing support for the burkini ban. Perhaps French politicians like prime minister Manuel Valls have struck a chord when saying the burkini is a "symbol of the enslavement of women" then? Don't expect British politicians like Ms Smith and Ms Bennett (no relation) to concede that, as they would prefer to sit tutting at France from across the Channel as it tries to protect its values.
The French are likely not to appreciate being told how to run their own country. A survey by Ifop found that a majority (64 per cent) of French people supported the burkini ban, and only 6 per cent thought it wasn't such a good idea, so sympathy will be thin on the ground.
France hasn't become a police state, no matter what Britain's spluttering worthies make out. It is a secularist nation "at war", as President Hollande put it, against Islamic extremists. It has been attacked repeatedly by them recently, with 238 French citizens killed and 823 injured in the last two years alone. So it's understandable why the French would want to fight back by making a robust statement about their values as a free Western nation. But that has been too much for Britain's liberal establishment.

Never see the burqa here. There is no ban but doing any business in government buildings (including libraries) or travelling in public transport your face must be visible that includes all face coverings.

I want to ban men over the age of 40 with pony-tails, flared jeans, nylon, and 80s-style wrist-bands.

Right, and the law applies to all people, and any kind of face covering.Scot Dutchy wrote:Never see the burqa here. There is no ban but doing any business in government buildings (including libraries) or travelling in public transport your face must be visible that includes all face coverings.

Muslim family branded ‘terrorists’ on trip to Skegness
A Muslim family have said they will not be coming back to Skegness after allegedly being called “terrorists” and watched as if they were “some kind of aliens”. The account of their first trip to the resort has been posted on the Tell Mamma website which measures anti-muslim attacks. It states: “Me and my family went for a family trip for the first time to Skegness with a local community centre. Together there were 12 people, of which seven of us wore hijabs. “Once we reached to the main area where there were shops. We noticed a lot of people just staring at us as if we were some form of aliens. It didn’t really bother us until we walked past the pub and a man shouted ‘terrorists’. “My sister and I just looked at each other and didn’t bother looking back at the man and we were shocked at what he had said. As we went to the beach again, a lot of people continuously stared at us. We just smiled back, but it made us think how ignorant these people are.

I wonder what percentage would ban muslims period. I bet it's at least 30%. After the last two years, muslim refugees fleeing Europe would be amusing.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

If we're going to be banning religions I'm all for equality and affirmative action.

The burqa is clearly a symbol of oppression, and is also a security risk. Ban all clothing that covers the whole face, simple as that.

Re: More than half of Britons want to ban the burqa
I kind of want to...
But it'd be shitty to do to people with enough problems already.
I also hate how everyone wants it to be oppression one minute and just like, clothes man, the next.
