13 new Zika cases reported in Florida

TALLAHASSEE — Florida set another Zika virus record Monday — with 13 new cases reported, including one in Palm Beach County.
The daily count topped last Wednesday’s reported 11 additional cases, at the time the largest single day number to date. Florida now has 276 cases of the mosquito-borne virus, all travel-related, including 43 cases involving pregnant women.

Palm Beach County has reported 13 cases of the virus as of Monday.

Congress started its final week before beginning summer recess, with no signs of a deal looming on funding to fight the Zika outbreak.

New York and Florida are leading the continental U.S. in incidents of the virus.

While Zika causes a mild and brief, flu-like illness in most people, among pregnant women, it is strongly linked to fetal deaths and severe birth defects. Brazil, host to the summer Olympics next month, is the global epicenter of the outbreak.

Google's got little on me. My security settings stop a lot of their tracking. Up until recently I was using disconnect search addon, which uses google through a proxy so they can't track you via IP. Unfortunately google changed their API (perhaps to stop this?), so it stopped working. I usually use DuckDuckGo now, but it uses Yahoo (probably for the same reason), and yahoo is shit. Startpage used to use Google I think. I might have to look into that one again.

Saw a discussion on the news the other night, on the only decent news show we get, which is a local production where they'll do round table thingys. They had an infectious disease doctor and the mosquito control administrators for both Sarasota and Manatee counties on. The pros are concerned because we definitely have plenty of the proper kind of mosquito here, and once you get a large enough reservoir of travel related cases you will definitely get mosquito borne transmission. Nobody really knows what this shit will do in the long run. I live slathered in DEET. For all we know it's already there in the mozzie population, since apparently about 80% of cases are asymptomatic. I've probably already got it, knowing my luck.
