I hope someone is keeping notes, because this last few days in the UK beat the most tortuous plots of the worst soap operas. It is almost impossible to follow events - many of which won't be clear until a few biographies come out in a few years I suspect.
The story so far: the Conservative front runner for the leadership (Boris) has just dropped out very dramatically at the last minute - stabbed in the back, by the looks, of one of his closest allies. The next Prime Minister could well be Teresa May, a woman obviously - and no bad thing, except she is a Tory of course.
Meanwhile the leader of the Labour party seems to be living in a bunker with his closest far left circle keeping 'cool heads' away from him. His parliamentary colleagues pretty much all want him out, but he is holding on because he knows that the grass roots members still support him. He will have to go though - he won't make it.
It's like fucking Dallas on a bad day here!
Quite good fun, if the UK economy wasn't what the stakes are about.

I think that Boris Johnson came to the conclusion that he wasn't going to win.
He might get a certain brand of support in the country with his clown image, but it wasn't going to translate to Prime Ministerial support.
He's got out without gaining the tag of loser. And waiting for a better chance. Maybe done a few deals while he's at it. Probably a wise move.
