Bernie Sanders believes that the top priority of any trade deal should be to help American workers. Unfortunately, as Bernie has warned year after year, American trade policy over the last 30 years has done just the opposite. Multinational corporations – who have helped to write most of these trade deals – have benefited greatly while millions of American jobs have been shipped overseas.

The tariffs are enormous and make things we take for granted like Stilton, Camembert, brie and the like about four times the price it costs us.

This would be slightly understandable if the Mericans were protecting home grown versions of the same cheeses, but in reality it seems to be a complete corporate block so they can tie up the market with their own liquid squeezy cheese crap and the like.

Your government and much of your legislation is the result of vested interests, corporations and crooks. But the poor little fella is too naive to appreciate the truth of this.

I bought 12 ounces of brie yesterday for $6.99, which works out to around $20 a kilo. Don't remember what I used to pay in the UK. The biggest problem is with cheeses make from non-pasteurized milk. The FDA, in it's infinite Federal we-know-better-than-you wisdom, has decided it's bad for us, so we lost a lot of French Roqueforts and other soft cheeses. Assholes. I didn't know there were stiff tariff structures in place. Maybe we need a trade agreement, you know, like TTIP or NAFTA or something. I tried to find information on European tariffs on American goods, but couldn't be bothered sifting through all the legalese, but from a rather cursory examination it appears that there's a lot of tit-for-tat going on. Who started it is up for discussion.
