Also, DeCoutere's description of Ms Henein is close to a personal attack, painting her as a cold, villainous robot with any perceived feminine qualities removed.If Ms DeCoutere genuinely thinks that there has been a miscarriage of justice or that the judge committed misconduct on the bench then; or that defence counsel breached the rules in the code of conduct, as in the UK, there is nothing to stop her asking the Crown to apply to have the verdict set aside on the grounds that it was perverse; there is nothing to stop her reporting the judge to the judicial authorities for misconduct; neither is there anything to stop her reporting Ms Henein for breach of the Bar's Code of Conduct - character assassination by defence counsel is generally expressly prohibited by every Bar Council/Association.
What she shouldn't do is give an interview to a journalist which verges on contempt of court. Nor should the Guardian have published it.
The response to this trial and verdict has been incredible. The judge's closing could hardly have been more damning against the alleged victims, yet there are cries of massive damage being done to future victims' chances of justice because the defendant was correctly found not guilty.
Sometimes I think I'm living in another universe.
