Yes, for someone who is used to see sparrows, finches and swallows they might seem big, but around here their size, typically somewhere between 30 and 40 centimetres from beak to tail, is not remarkable. I like them particularly for their songs. The way they harmonise in pairs makes them particularly attractive. Some years ago I filmed this pair of juveniles singing for breadcrumbs.

Let's say I'm more used to pidgeons and sea gulls... though, I AM familiar with corvus corax, and was inclined to believe other members of the family were significantly smaller, whereas, the shown mags, do seem to be close in size to a true raven.

Magpies are not musical well here they are not. They are a pain in the arse and we cant touch them. They are not an urban bird but as with gulls they have found easy pickings.
