A very Australian flood must include a 'Roo splashing through someone's home.

The floods are just crazily bad, and the rain keeps coming down. Half a million people are warned they may have to evacuate...

Flooding from Gympie to Lismore. That's 350kms of inland sea. And now the weather system is moving down to Sydney where they are expecting a dumping.

It's also storming here after a day's reprieve yesterday. A lot more rain predicted in the next few days. Enough already!

I remember when Harvey parked over Texas, I thought it'd never stop raining. Houston became a lake...and then the dams opened too...

Even more rain for Sydney, thousands evacuated, billions of dollars in damages. I feel I'm in a weird bubble here, with horrible things happening everywhere else. I look at footage from the Ukraine of little girls in tears, and think of Tilly. The world is a pretty shitty place at the moment...

I feel a little traumatised from this flood, both personally and the fact of how widespread it was. I joined the "mud army" after the Brisbane floods in 2011, but just wanted out of the place this time around. I did help a couple of my neighbours briefly, but that was all I could face. Having covid at the same time probably didn't help.

Our PM gets a tongue lashing from one of his own:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-03-29/ ... /100949764
Outgoing Liberal senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells has taken aim at Prime Minister Scott Morrison, describing him as "an autocrat" and "a bully with no moral compass" who pretends to be a man of faith.

Of course he is, but the Senator's outburst is a clear result of sour grapes. Had the Prime Minister not placed Concetta Fierravanti-Wells in an unwinnable position for the imminent election, she would not have said a critical word about Scotty from Marketing.

A shocking amount of rain, yet again, in rEv's neck of the woods:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-03-30/ ... /100950270
Summary of NSW floods update

Well the NSW floods press conference certainly had a lot to unpack. Here's the main points:

Floodwaters have 'overtopped' Lismore's levee
Lismore, Byron Bay, Coraki and Woodburn have been impacted the most by heavy rain
Rainfall in parts of the Northern Rivers topped 400mm
"Destructive" flash flooding has hit Ballina and Byron Bay
Acting Premier Paul Toole expects a "very wet" April
The NSW SES defended its decision to evoke evacuation orders across the Northern Rivers yesterday
Yet down here in Victoria, it's been dry, we could really use some rain...

That's hardly surprising. Things were out of control and there was little you could do to affect the situation. And definitely having Covid at the same time wouldn't have helped. Nature's one scary bitch sometimes.

From the federal government's Ministry of Let Them Eat Cake:

Our Prime Minister, Scotty from Marketing, has just put the satire industry out of business. Millions of low income families are struggling with spiralling rental prices. Everybody expected the government budget he just just announced for the coming financial year to include a rental assistance program. There wasn't one. When asked about it, Morrison replied that in order to fix the rental prices people should buy houses.

City Median price
Sydney 1,601,467
Melbourne 1,101,612
Brisbane 792,065
Adelaide 731,547
Canberra 1,178,364
Perth 752,110
Hobart 752,110
Darwin 645,487

That is classic; Morrison once again reinforces his standing as a colossal numpty.

One rather hopes that in a few scant months he'll be an ex-PM, and with the usual shark-like feeding frenzy after a loss, an ex party leader as well...
