Problem is that the Republicans have been unable to align a guy who was neither crazy nor an extremist since Reagan (I lump bush senior in the extreme right wing, given his "secret" activities as CIA chief and how he laid the path to Taliban power as Vice and then as president)... trump looks like a viable canidate from that sump pool
