A number of places have done them now. The value is tied to GBP (or whatever the national currency is) so the only difference it makes is that the money is fixed in the local region. It's a good way of resisting the increase in geographical wealth inequality when big corporations pump money out of local places out to wherever their executives/shareholders want to hoard it i.e. London, tax havens etc. because it can only be spent in the region it came from. It helps keep small local businesses and stores competitive against the various chains, supermarkets, internet shopping and such, by them having a sort of cooperative union and commitment to spend back into the local economy.

It's good business. :tup:
