North sea oil fields set to make a loss on every barrel produced as BP cuts 300 jobs

North Sea oil fields are on the verge of losing money for every barrel they produce, according to a survey of industry forecasters carried out by The Independent.

Future exploration, investment and tens-of-thousands of jobs are all said to now be under threat from falling global oil prices, with up to a third of the North Sea already nearing loss-making territory.

Sturgeon has to respect his authority. Because he has power, and she has none, when it comes to any further changes to the status-quo.

She can ask, that's all. She can even demand. But it's all meaningless.

And ironically, Cameron doesn't even have to worry about losing support north of the border.
Because he hasn't got any to lose. And saying no to Sturgeon would GAIN him support, and votes, where there are actually votes that he could gain. In England and Wales.

He obviously doesn't want a fight with the SNP. But if one happens, he really has nothing to lose.

What's the worst that could happen? She demands a new referendum, and he says no. As he would be fully entitled to. Alex Salmond said, after he lost the referendum, that that was that for a generation.

He must be already regretting those words.

Actually, Sturgeon doesn't have much of a hand to play. She already has all the Scottish MPs, and has control of the Scottish Parliament. She has nothing to gain in a fight.
And if she was allowed another referendum, and lost that too, the chance of yet another would be out of the window for the next thirty years.
So she can't afford to demand another, unless she is absolutely certain of winning it.

She has no cards to play. If the opinion polls were showing a huge majority for independence, then she might actually have something to bargain with. Or not. Cameron might be tempted to call her bluff. With the oil price on the floor, the Scots will never vote for independence.
