The Tories are bringing back fox hunting

The Conservative formed a majority government yesterday, and they’ve already gone back to work, it seems.

Asked on Newsnight about some of the party’s pledges, Jeremy Hunt confirmed that they would overturn Labour’s hunting ban.

As stated in the Tory manifesto, it is believed that David Cameron will offer a free vote on the controversial issue.

Fox hunting was legal in Great Britain until then Prime Minister Tony Blair decided to ban it through a free vote in the House of Commons in 2004.

At the time, David Cameron opposed the move in a piece for Countryside Alliance, writing:

“It is my firm belief that people should have the freedom to hunt, so I share the frustration that many people feel about the Hunting Act”.

The move is likely to attract considerable opposition from animal rights activists, such as comedian Ricky Gervais, who took to Twitter this morning to condemn the decision.
