Actually, the ammo trade is going balls-to-the-wall and has been since Obama was elected, and there are still huge ammo shortages and prices skyrocketed just prior to his reelection. They are coming down a bit now that the manufacturers have increased capacity and many people have maxed out their ammo budgets, but it's still pretty high compared to the halcyon days of Ronald Reagan and George Bush the Elder, when I could buy .308/7.62 NATO for under 25 cents a round surplus. It's still almost a dollar a round now.

Not to mention the fact that the Obama Administration has been buying literally hundreds of millions of rounds for Obama's own little homeland security cadre that he promised us...while he gives away million-dollar MRAP's to Andy Griffith Mayberry local yokels all over the US as an enticement to further militarize our police.

Ver-de-gris or copper salts from the brass.
It is slightly deliquescent so it grabs moisture from the atmosphere to accelerate the process.

I don't think wax or grease helps avoid it. Maybe it does, if used right. The best thing is to store it in a dry airtight atmosphere with some of those things that suck moisture out of the air.
