Man in 80s shot dead in Reigate gun shop

A man in his 80s has died after apparently shooting himself in a hunting shop in Surrey.

The gun was heard to go off at John Powell Gun Makers in Reigate town centre at about 09:40 GMT, Surrey Police said.

A man, thought to be a customer or visitor to the shop, was declared dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said there did not appear to be any other person involved and there was no threat to the public.

He said it appeared that the man had shot himself, but was unable to say whether it was accidental or deliberate.

The shop sells vintage guns, shotguns, rifles and airguns.
