...remember this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/ju ... ens-bodies
Divers searching sunken Russian tourist boat find up to 50 bodies in a recreation room – most of them children
The boast was carrying 50% more people than it was registered for, and it had a problem with its left engine. No doubt if health and safety officers in Britain had inspected the boat and shut it down the likes of Littlejohn would have sided with the poor owner whose business was being destroyed by red tape.

50% over capacity
and a faulty engine.
Never mind the
Daily Hate Mail, let's see how
Russia Today tries to spin this one.
EDIT:
Prosecutors said the boat lacked a licence to carry passengers ...

The British health and safety officers inspect boats on Russian rivers?

I think that Devogue was pointing out that, whilst the
Fail may deride Britain's H&S regime, the absence of such a regime has consequences.

There is however a difference between criminal neglect and the bureaucratic nightmare that used to be the elfensafety industry, certainly here in the UK. One of the (very!) few things I agree with about our present government is their determination to rip up a lot of that bureaucracy.

I think this is another case of getting what you deserve.
Not the victims, but Russians in general.
This boat was massively overloaded, it probably went out like that every day, but obviously people didn't vote with their feet, or complain enough.
Some things are more predictable than others, but 200 plus people loaded on that boat must have felt dicey to passengers long before this happened.
Maybe Russia is still suffering from an era when it was best not to complain. A national attitude that needs to change, to avoid more tragedies like this, and Chernobyl.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
