Fuckin' hell. Though I'm not that surprised. China has a long history of treating its people like garbage. No real worker's rights over there.

All I can think of is "WalMart".

Damn! I can't find ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING, that's NOT made in China. And I've tried.

Has anyone ever heard or been to a restaurant called Cracker Barell?

It's as American as you can get. old time farm picks and decorations. They have a store with all kinds of neat "American" things in it.

Except that they're ALL made in China. Toys, clothes, jewelry, seasonal stuff, etc...all representing the good ol USA and it's all made in China.

I was disgusted.

That's pretty normal nowadays. Manufacturing is farmed out to the lowest bidder.

I believe Bob Dylan once sang about this ...

... but since his evil lawyers have almost completely removed videos of his songs from YouTube, it is no longer possible to hear him railing against the excesses of capitalism. Ironic that. :ddpan:

It seems they have decided to winnow out the worst bits of capitalism and communism and combine them in a great big melting pot...

Which releases deadly fumes...

There's evidence that their pollution was even worse under pure communism. They just didn't allow pictures to be taken.

I saw something on TV before about Chinese people taking the Chinese Government to court over some pollution issue. I think the Government had turned a blind eye and allowed an area to become heavily polluted, causing heath problems. Anyway, it surprised me greatly. It didn't match up with what I thought a totalitarian Communist state should be like.... I mean, imagine trying to sue Hitler in Germany. :ask:

I had a workmate from China too, and while I assumed a lot of the things she believed about China were propaganda, I came to realise that much of what I'd been led to believe about China was propaganda too. We tend to have an image of it as a totalitarian state that has very recently begun to integrate capitalism into their system (but is otherwise a stereotypical totalitarian Communist state), but the reality seem to be a lot more complex.
