Microsoft pays $8.5bn (£5.2bn) for Skype

Post by Pappa » Tue May 10, 2011 10:24 pm

Skype is currently a loss-making venture, but one that 663 million people are using. What will Microsoft do to it?

Hey, Microsoft bought the rights to DOS (so to speak) many years ago, and that turned out OK, didn't it? :eddy:

We're all very excited about these changes.

Microsoft Dos upgrade ...... Please back up all your data before you upgrade to dos 6.0 .....
197 discs later and after the install ......... This back-up was made with a previous version of MS-back and is not compatible with the current version

... many years ago, I was driven around Dublin by a taxi driver who referred to to it as "MS bleedin' DOS" :nazi:

May or may not be a myth... but the DOS that Microsoft bought and ran with was adapted from an earlier QDOS, which stood for Quick and Dirty Operating System.

It's no myth. Microsoft just didn't tell the poor sap it was buying 86-DOS (aka QDOS) from what it was going to do with it. Actually, under the Non-Disclosure Agreement with IBM, Microsoft couldn't say anything anyway.

$75,000 ... world domination was cheap back then.
