Food Prices Hit New High

Post by Atheist-Lite » Thu Mar 03, 2011 7:40 pm

Global food prices have hit record highs, and could rise even further, according to the United Nations.

The UN's Food Price Index rose 2.2% in February to the highest level since the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) began monitoring prices in 1990.

It also warned that spikes in the oil price could make the "already precarious" situation in the food market even worse.

I've got a few ideas on how to handle this. Turn millions of acres of arable land over to biodiesel and ethanol production. Ban factory farming of animals and return to free-range husbandry methods. Break up the rapacious, capitalistic, exploitative agribusiness corporations. Ban pesticides, fertilizers and GM crops and return to sustainable, organic farming methods. Within 10 or 20 years we'll be down to maybe half a billion global population and there will be plenty of food and lots of fuel for our flying cars.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
