I´ll be voting in Iceland tomorrow!

Post by Sælir » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:35 pm

Tomorrow we will be voting a group of people to oversee changes in our constitution

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101126/ap_ ... d_election

For the last few weeks I´ve been browsing through candidates to vote for our assembly of people to change our consitution and I think I´ve finally reached a conclusion and picked 22 people out of those 523.
This is a huge opportunity for us to change what we don´t like about the constitution (separation of church and state e.g.) and make other things clearer (we don´t have gays and handicapped people in our discrimination chapter). Many ideas have been shared like voting people instead of parties, having our ministers hired professionally instead of coming from a political party and most people agree on putting more things to vote for the people (we would need some kind of e-democracy for that which could easily be done).

Exciting times and I really hope we´ll get some good people in there to change what needs to be changed

Now wish us luck

Wouldn't it be great if everyone was as diligent and engaged as you are in the political system.

Why do they need to have an election in Iceland? Can't they just ask everyone their preference when they see them in the post office? :dunno:

We had our state election today. It has all been very much party politics, dirty deals and image over substance, so all very meh...

Is it best out of three?

There was a landslide victory in Iceland's election.

Good luck to Iceland! Sælir, keep us posted, OK?

I will. I can´t wait to see how many of those that want separation of church and state get in. That´ll be interesting

It's a strapline from a TV advert. My real mum died six years ago very suddenly.
