We don't take kindly to your kind 'round here.

Post by Trolldor » Wed Nov 10, 2010 8:44 pm

Welcome to Amer--- Australia?
On the night of her school formal, Hannah Williams found herself all dressed up with nowhere to go.

After inviting friends to her home for ''pre-drinks'', the 16-year-old stood on her doorstep and watched her classmates file into the darkness to attend one of the highlights of the school year.

Instead of joining them, Hannah took off her heels and black dress and went to bed.

Is a prom/ball date compulsory? Couldn't they just go seperately then tongue during the slow dance?
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

The girl's partner had to be invited as she was in the year below.

Oh why didn't mixed race couples ever think of that? Would have saved us so much time and pain during the civil rights movement. Why they could just marry people of their own race then sleep with eachother! So practical.
Gallstones, I believe you know how to contact me. The rest of you? I could not possibly even care.

What I mean is they could have avoided the fuss and still gone together, I didn't realise it wasn't the other girls prom*. I know that's far from ideal and they should stand up for themselves but fuck, this shouldn't even be an issue. Its just a shame they had to miss out if it was important to them. If I were one of their parents I'd have probably advised them to go separately so they at least had a chance then meet up inside, fuck the teachers, if they forcibly remove a young lesbian couple from a prom it's an even bigger media story.

*Our prom was totally different in that it is only open to the kids in that year group, no out of school/year group dates, and very few actually bothered going as dates unless they were already together. It was basically just a year group piss-up in fancy dress.

Balls .. proms .. Tradition ... :ani:

People who think defending Tradition with rules is more important than the individuals participating have lost sight of what matters.

Can you give a rigorous definition of what a "kind" is?

I'd have sued them till their eyes bled. I mean I'm in America, maybe Australia is different, but the last time someone tried that in America, the judge took a VERY dim view, to the tune of $35,000 punative damages and legal fees.

It's amazing how few 35k judgments have to happen before the worst conservative starts to spend more time whining and less time doing anything. It turns out for 90% of them their religion is much less important than the results when the courts smash the school's wallet (results = time to find a new job!).

There is a very expensive tradition in Melbourne of "Deb balls" around Year 11, that require parents to buy expensive formal clothes, dancing lessons and ridiculously expensive tickets (usually a minimum of 5 per family). We went through it about 10 years ago when David's GF of the time just had to go...

Luckily, both Nick and his current GF think it is a waste of time!

Win!

Well, a lot of them are kind, but some can get a little bitchy at times...

Actually, gay people in general.

Private schools are exempt from discrimination laws which forbid normal businesses from refusing to employ people based on sexual orientation etc.

Anyone else want to come tell me that these places are worth investing time in?
