Actually, I was reading in an edition of The Watchtower I came across that the Catholic Church worked very hard to keep the Bible out of the hands of ordinary people. I gained a new appreciation for the Church and wish they had been more successful.

I think they didn't want people to read it because they figured it was unintelligible, and everyone would come up with different interpretations. On that point, they were dead right.
