Light 'em up, folks! Time to burn those Korans.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-0 ... rners.html

Sept. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Two Iranian grand ayatollahs issued fatwas calling for the killing of those who insult the Koran, including anyone who burns the Islamic holy book, the state-run Fars news agency reported.

No one was specified in the decrees, which were issued by Nasser Makarem-Shirazi and Hossein Nouri-Hamedani in response to questions asked by student groups from universities in Tehran, Fars said. Such an action against any individual could only be carried out with the authorization of an Islamic religious judge, they said.

“Undoubtedly, the blood of a person who burns the Koran should be shed,” Makarem-Shirazi was cited by Fars as saying. Everybody should “strongly condemn” such an act
Well, I tell you. I won't kowtow to such at threat.

Shit like this is going to get me to switch my position on Koran burning, but quick.

This jackalope thinks everybody should condemn koran burning, but he doesn't see a problem with calling for people to be killed for burning or even just insulting it? For fucks sake!

Suck my balls, Ayatollahs! I might be willing to do a lot worse than burn the disgusting and hateful tripe if they keep this shit up....

Students who protested outside the Swiss Embassy in Tehran today set fire to the U.S. flag, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported. The Swiss Embassy represents U.S. interests in Iran. They also destroyed a coffin that had the phrase “Liberal Democracy” written on it.

So why are we not making a scene about this?????? Why do we let them do whatever they want?

Maybe it is time for an annual Religous Freedom day? - where the main religous books (and maybe even Dawkins'!) is burnt in every country to demonstrate that it still has both freedom to choose a religion and also freedom from religions (freedom from getting arrested or lynched).

I wouldn't normally seek to take an action that dignifies a religous handbook by accepting it has importance - but willing to make an exception for the greater good.

IMO the Nazi book burning thing is not a fair comparison - they were doing it doing it to restrict free speech and censor thoughts, whereas burning korans and bibles around the world once a year would be to support free speech and free thinking, after all not trying to burn every copy (it not being an Atheist event!).

November 5th would work well in the UK..........

I do not approve of koran burning in an organised on Tv protest about A mosque in Manhattan ,any more than I would approve of a global burn the US flag day or a burn the bibles day . However it is bonfire night soon , So I might need a koran  Now how do I get one without paying for it ? Or had the irony of rushing out and buying Korans not occurred to you book burners ?

Because the U.S. is more mature than the Iranian Ayatollahs.

It's so cool to have a chance to use the phrase "the U.S. is more mature".

But...but...I'm afwaid dey'll DIT me if I bun a Kowan!

Hold me, mommy...

But seriously, you people better enjoy the good times while they last, because before you know it, the ayahtollahs will have nukes. Then they can do some serious fatwa-enforcing. Big time. No more Mister Nice Ayahtollah. No more little pitty-pat bombing attacks and assassinations. The fun and games will be over then, I'll wager.

I used to sleep a few feet from where nukes might have been if we had any. I read On The Beach three times.

Nor I. However, the Soviets were once deceived into thinking they were under ICBM attack because of a crapped-out computer. They came within minutes of having to decide whether to launch a counterstrike in the belief they were under nuclear attack. In the Soviets' case, crapped out equipment was more of a threat than crapped out monkeybrains, even though most of them were alcoholics. In the case of the ayahtollahs, I think both crapped out equipment and crapped out monkeybrains would pose a double threat.

The ayahtollahs won't have to nuke you. They can shut off the strait of Hormuz and wither you on the vine. They can finance and sponsor as many terrorist attacks as they wish, without much fear of retaliation. After all, monkeyworld endured state-sponsored terrorism for decades, even when the state sponsors did not have nukes.

It is also a near certainty that Iranian possession of nukes will spur other countries in the region to develop their own nuclear arsenals. Nuclear Saudi Arabia will not always be a nightmare from which monkeys awake to breathe a sigh of relief that it was only a dream. You will be hoping the House of Saud will be able to hold on to power, because the alternative will be unthinkable. Just as it is now in Pakistan.

But don't worry. The smart move would be to bomb Iran out, but we're not going to do the smart thing. We feel like gambling. If it turns out to be a bad gamble, we have ways to correct the error, more or less.

Have a nice day.

If I am cold and in danger of freezing to death and copies of the Koran was the only fuel available I would have reason to burn them or if I was on a desert island where bible and korans were the only combustable material I would not hesitate to burn them to signal to rescuers and Gilligan, the Skipper too, the Millionaire and his Wife, the Movie star, the Professor and Mary Ann, could not stop me.
