The New Oval Office Looks Good
I have to say, I like the new style in the oval office: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldne ... ffice.html
I've never been a big fan of them redoing it for every President, even though the place is pristine. It's a small example of waste. But, the new decorators did a good job. I like the understated seal on the carpet, and the colors are good - mustard and all that.
The Presidential desk is the same - thanks again to the Brits for that.
All and all it looks nice and very up-to-date.
I'm not sure I care too much about the removal of the Churchill bust. I think that it's just a personal preference of the man whose office it is, and if he wants MLK rather than some other folks, great. One might have argued why Churchill was there and not, say, Jefferson or some other American icon.

The there's some good ole' racism:What the hell has Obama done to the traditional oval office, what next, garden gnomes?
get this one termer gone, whilst the US, still has at least some dignity,

And the worst rated comment by Daily Mail regulars:Hideous ... what it really needs are some leopard skin antimacassars on the chairs and sofas.

Hmm, I wonder what nasty comments are going to be made regarding this makeover. Of course those making them will completely ignore the fact that:
"Presidents typically put their own touches on the Oval Office early in their terms."
Let's be honest here folks, there are some out there who have over the past year just woken up to the fact that there is a Black Man in the White House, hence the venom directed at Obama - his birth place, religion, we could go on, all total non-issues, just like this office revamp. And remember Brits, Churchill was on loan from the British Embassy. He does not belong to the White House (though I am open to correction from someone in authority who actually knows the history of this bust.

I'm guessing you're not very familiar with the Daily Mail crowd, this is a pretty subtle racial gesture towards Obama. I'm surprised there's little mention that he's a 'fucking nigger'.
You can't help them, sorry.Eriku wrote:Really?! Worst rated?Lozzer wrote: And the worst rated comment by Daily Mail regulars:Hmm, I wonder what nasty comments are going to be made regarding this makeover. Of course those making them will completely ignore the fact that:

Looks to me like the racism is in the eye of the beholder in the comment you quote.

Re: The New Oval Office Looks Good
I'd think rednecks would love an oval office with the skins of dead animals covering the floors and furniture.devogue wrote:He should have done it up like this to really annoy the rednecks...

I don't know what any of the commenting folks on the Mail found objectionable about the decor. It doesn't appear less classy than before.
I have many objections to Obama, but his decor choice is not one of them.

Classy, but boring. An overload of beige. And I thought Bush's Oval Office was dull!
I miss Clinton's colors (stains excluded).

Are they homophobic too? Because it seems to me that a strongly worded post on the subject of interior decoration makes a person just a little bit gay.Lozzer wrote:No, really. Who wants to break the news to all those Daily Mail readers?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Re: The New Oval Office Looks Good
Yeah, but after Clinton was done with it, they had to have it stripped bare and bleached. So, that was one time where complete remodeling was needed. As I recall, they hired the same company that washes out most of the peep show "booths" across the country.....Ian wrote:Classy, but boring. An overload of beige.
