Hawking in trouble?

LONDON (Reuters) - Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the world's foremost physicists, has been urgently admitted to hospital, Cambridge University said in a statement on Monday.

Hawking, 67, who is wheelchair-bound and almost completely paralyzed by a wasting illness, was taken to a local hospital in Cambridge, where he is a professor of applied mathematics.

"Professor Hawking is very ill and has been taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital," the statement said.[/ex]

This is not good...he has been in a frail state for quite awhile now... :(

His loss would be quite a blow to Quantum Physics... :(

It doesn't sound very hopeful but I hope he recovers.

CNN is reporting that Hawking is expected to make a full recovery. No mention of whether or not he'll resume his football career.

Keep up with the news, man. Apparently, thanks to his nurse his footy career has been replaced by boxing a long time ago. He is the punching bag.

The joke about "third base" would probably go over most of your heads, so I won't mention it. :pardon:

I know his ALS has progressed slower than usual. The fact that he's lived this long is a testament to his fortitude. Though Im sure something in his genetic makeup made the disease progress slower. :dono:

ALS can be a bit random at times though. I don't know if that's down to genes, luck or something else. But we've all been lucking in having him stick around so long. I read an interview with him where he said, on balance, he'd stick with the ALS if he could turn back the clock, as it allowed him the time to think through his greatest theories.
