A good example of government incompetence.
British passengers who spent hours stuck on a hot, dark plane on the tarmac at a tiny American airport have told of the confusion and misery as their trans-Atlantic flight was delayed and then diverted.
The flight from London to Newark, New Jersey was diverted to a tiny airport in Connecticut due to bad weather.
But the airport was not equipped to handle international flights - and the passengers were trapped on board the aircraft for four hours as officials struggled to deal with the situation.
Passengers described hearing yells and screams on the plane, with three people fainting in the heat....
'There were babies on the plane. And we are in dark and hot. You try to be patient but people were yelling and screaming.'

They were kept on the plane for four hours, and temperatures were over 100 degrees, people fainted, babies were on board.
And...... "officials STRUGGLED" - STRUGGLED to deal with the situation?
What's the fucking god-damn struggle! Wheel out a staircase, put it up against the fucking plane, and have a bunch of spotters and assistants at the staircase to help people down, and let them the FUCK off the FUCKING AIRPLANE!
The article refers to the "rules having to be followed" and "can't let people just wander around." Right and right on both counts, but this isn't a flippin' unpredictable situation! I mean, when the rules are being made, is nobody competent enough to think, "what if a plane has to land at another airport for which it is not a carrier ...how will that be handled?" Either they are too fucking god-damn stupid to think of simple things, or they just don't care. In the case of government bureaucracies, I think it's both.
If this was not a government ordered activity, the airline would be sued and everyone would be appalled at how the people were treated. When it's "government regulations" however, it seems the press at least sees nothing odd about them having to "struggle" to deal with this very simple situation. A plane landed at another airport. Get some fucking people over there to help, regardless of what stinking union they belong to, and get the people off the plane and put them in a place where they have access to food, water and bathrooms. If security is needed, pick up the fucking phone and call the police.

I've done plenty.Gawdzilla wrote:You don't do much international travel, do you?
Calling it international travel doesn't mean that common sense has to fly out the window. If people are fainting from heat, sitting in the dark, babies are crying, food is gone, and people are so uncomfortable and scared that they are "screaming" then there is something that can be done about.
The excuses made are excuses available ONLY to a government bureacracy. If Virgin Atlantic itself did this without having to do it under government regulations, that excuse would be not available. If we're going to have government departments handling this stuff, we need to require a higher level of competence than this. If these are the rules, then the rules need to be changed and someone who actually has a clue about what they're doing needs to write the fucking rules.
I mean - come on! "struggling" to deal with the situation? "The situation" -- a plane landed at an airport 60 miles away from its intended fucking destination - in Connecticut, one of the wealthiest states in the world, per capita. My fucking FSM! take the people off the plane, bring in 4-5 police officers. Get them to a charter bus, and drive them the fucking 90 minutes to Newark!

It wasn't just "uncomfortable." People were passing out, and had to be helped by paramedics.Gawdzilla wrote:"FUCK the rules This needs to be done I will be heading to prison if I ignore security. "Feck wrote:Nobody there to say "FUCK the rules This needs to be done I will be responsible "

My outrage is more at the nonsense about "struggling" to deal with the situation. Cripes, man....it's a simple situation! These idiots can't deal with it? Holy hell! That's frightening.
