Apparently having a religious Tin Tin as Prime Minister isn't good enough, what we really want is an unqualified Ernie without the Bert.

It is quite extraordinary - Australia may actually end up electing Tony Abbott, clearly not on his own merits, but in retreat from a Labour Party riddled with arrogance, incompetence and complacency...

Isn't that why Rudd was elected?JimC wrote:It is quite extraordinary - Australia may actually end up electing Tony Abbott, clearly not on his own merits, but in retreat from a Labour Party riddled with arrogance, incompetence and complacency...

Yay - our first female prime minister.
Let's hope Abbott doesn't get in

I don't think we're going to have that many female prime ministers after this.
And budgie won't be elected. It's more likely the Greens will kick up a notch or two in popularity now... unless I'm giving us too much credit. Which is likely.

I've already committed to letterboxing and manning the pollbooths for the greens, but they'll only take votes from Labor, not the LIbs
Besides, having seen a red-green coalition in Germany, I don't know how good they'd be in government. I like them as a strong opposition...

I don't understand why people are so damned commited to a party inspite of their policies. That you can deduce regions to 'labor' or 'liberal' says a lot about our political awareness.

I respect the man, and may well agree with many of his straightforward environmental policies, but he and the greens are unrealistic/too idealistic in many other policy areas...nellikin wrote:I like Bob Brown!

Hence my liking the greens as a strong opposition (oh - and the balance in the senate would be nice)

How strange. She's not only Welsh, but from my town too.... actually the same street.... the same block of terraced houses I live on. Her house was about 10 doors down from my house. There were local TV cameras filming about it here this afternoon, and I just saw one of my neighbours interviewed on the national news.

One thing - she's unmarried, has a live-in male partner, but is thought to swing both ways, and is (I strongly suspect) an atheist, although possibly not quite ready to emerge from that particular closet...

It's not that big of a secret. Her profile iis listed as 'non-religious'.JimC wrote:One thing - she's unmarried, has a live-in male partner, but is thought to swing both ways, and is (I strongly suspect) an atheist, although possibly not quite ready to emerge from that particular closet...

That is the code word for "I don't believe in god, but I'm not one of those pushy, Richard Dawkins atheists"...Don Juan Demarco wrote:It's not that big of a secret.
