You know them, the tabloid journalists. What motivates them to spread their vibrant sense of 'moral' and 'patriotic' appreciation? They've actually made such a proportion of British people stupid that I'm having a hard time discerning whether they intenionally make the majority of their readers vacuous imbeciles or merely do it because they're morons themselves. There seems to be a lot of money in influencing public opinion, and I'd like to think it's just happy coincidence that all major tabloids are filthy Tory rags.
I was watching Question Time earler on BBC, and some of the questions asked seriously challenged my dignity to think that I share a country with them. Hey, I'm all up for these babes longing for a greater sense of patriotism in this country, but seriously, please learn that politics doesn't revolves around headbutting foreigners and shouting down Americans.
I know it's rather wishful to think that if everyone read the Independant or Guardian the UK would hold a greater intelligence, but I really sometimes wonder if they'd be better off without 'newspapers' at all
what motivates them?

Sales figures?
Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.
Re: what motivates them?
I got sick of hearing people repeating gobshite from tabloids a long time ago . They are written to appeal to the lowest intellect and confirm the worst opinions of "the man in the street ".

Re: what motivates them?
Profit mostly. Plus making up a story that gets readers emotional involved (and therefore likely to keep reading) is a lot easier that finding a true story, presenting the all the facts clearly, and hoping that the truth is interesting enough to keep the readers reading.
I've often thought that there should be more strict controls over the press - so that they would have to make it clear when they were presenting fact or opinion. I think it's very sad that "you can't believe everything you read in the papers" is becoming more and more true, because if we can't believe them, who can we believe?

[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
