This shit be unnecessary

Post by Trolldor » Tue May 25, 2010 6:20 pm

I created a 'ghost' facebook account. A new e-mail address, no personal information, even an invented birth date.

And it was recommending friends to me, friends from my other facebook account which I recently reactivated against my better judgement in the hopes of catching someone.

Once again, facebook demonstrates that it goes out of it's way to be as creepy as fucking possible.

That's going to bring back the "Who the fuck is this guy" thread, I know it is.

That's happened to me as well. I'm thinking of knocking the whole fucking thing on the head. It really is horrible.

(But I enjoy seeing how everyone from school has got really old).

I don't know if you realise this, but it is possible to be surprised by something you are unaware of, and to know the probable causes once you've seen it.

Facebook can detect your IP, I assume. Naturally, it will suggest friends in your area (by IP, not by what you type into "Location") and also friends on your other account, since both IPs are the same.
Of course, I don't know shit about computers, so I'm not sure if this is true or not.

Might I suggest using a proxy?

You create a ghost account, and you complain that Facebook is creepy?

I was using it so I could add people I wanted to keep in to contact with, without my goddamned family seeing everything I did. No pictures, no personal info, just a brand spanking new made-up e-mail.

There's really no choice. Where everything is so freely available on the internet these days the only way to get some privacy is to fabricate it all.
There are a couple of more steps, like masking IP and so on, which I didn't take because I didn't think it was necessary...

You know you can use the privacy setting in conjunction with lists to selectively allow and disallow access to your info, pictures, feeds, etc.?
