British folk across the pond, question for you:
What's your perception of the Obama administration in terms of the "special relationship" between the US and UK?
Does the UK feel snubbed by Obama? There have been reports of returned gifts, and lame-ass gifts by the President to the Prime Minister of, like 25 DVD movies, and stuff, missed or canceled meetings, and something about a return of the bust of Winston Churchill that was formerly at the White House. I had heard snippets of talk in Parliament about an end to the "special relationship" between the US and the UK - is that correct?
What's the deal?
IMHO, I think the Brits are the best. You're the only country left in Europe, other than the Russians, with any sack. I consider Britain a fierce ally, and a fast friend, to the United States. You've got a kick-ass military, and actually do your pro-rata part in the world, while those on the Continent tend to make more symbolic and weak-kneed gestures or do flip flops when the going gets tough.
IMHO, I think that the US and UK should remain inseparable allies - in it for the duration. I wish the rest of Europe would be on board too, because had we been unified after 9/11, and proceeded as one voice, the issues with Iran and the DPRK would be memories by now....

Things will be very different once we have President Palin and they have Prime Minister Clegg.

I've got a bit more respect for your country now since Obama doesn't seem to be as much of a complete tosser as Bush was but other than my insignificant point of view I can't really say I've noticed a change

Please don't say "President Palin." It makes me throw up a little into my mouth...Ian wrote:Things will be very different once we have President Palin and they have Prime Minister Clegg.

No talk in your major media of Parliament considering a "shift" away from the "special relationiship?"Paco wrote:I've got a bit more respect for your country now since Obama doesn't seem to be as much of a complete tosser as Bush was but other than my insignificant point of view I can't really say I've noticed a change
Were there any discussions of the alleged "snubs" that have been reported over here?

It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

I think we may just be used to getting lame gifts - but it's not really such a big deal here.

Re: British folk across the pond, question for you:
There was some talk months ago about toning down or rethinking the "special relationship", not scrapping it altogether. The support for this relationship is for all intents and purposes nil amongst the general public.
My personal take on it is America tells us to bend over and shut up; and we do. That seems to be the majority opinion outside politics. I often wonder if we hate American politicians more than our own sometimes.
