EU leaders say they've had enough of 'the cheque's in the post' excuses and offer a years extension to the Article 50 period. If that's not acceptable then we crash out on Friday.

EU rejects Theresa May's bid for short delay to Brexit.

The 1980s called. They want their sitcoms back.

But that is amazing really. Those writers knew the truth which the tories have always denied and today is biting their arses.

Ballcocks. If 80s sitcoms taught us anything it was that It Ain't Half Hot Mum represents Britain's collective hankering after Empire, Are You Being Served is the nation's foremost exposition on the merits of globalised capitalism and international free trade, and that Terry and June is a seminal treatise on sexual politics and domestic violence.

They have lost their empire five decades earlier, and yet they insist on Keeping Up Appearances. As if nothing had changed.

What? You were quoting Yes Minister, a funny but satirical comedy show and saying it was what UK policy to Europe was based on. It just isn’t the case but you hate the UK so much you just love throwing the shit around for the giggles.

Somewhat ironically, Antony Jay, producer and co-writer of Yes Minister (1980-1984) and Yes, Prime Minister (1986-1988), was a staunchly conservative libertarian. He received a knighthood in 1988, and was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for personal services to the Royal Family in 1993. Both series were polemics about the futility of big government in general and social democratic big government in particular.

Quite so. My experience of the Civil Service at national level (his target for many of the programmes) was quite different ten or twelve years ago in the later part of my career which involved implementing government policy at county level. The civil servants I met were mostly incredibly bright, not long out of Oxford or Cambridge, exceptionally high on theory and low on practise and not remotely like Sir Humphrey. They were also rather less organised, to my surprise, than I expected.

Times change, unlike SD’s prejudices.

More childish responses. FFS pull yourself together. It was UK policy for centuries: divide and rule.
