Over here, everyone who is a legal resident in the country is already registered. So, there is nothing special to do to decide who can vote and who cannot vote.

Exactly the same here but Nine very few anglo-saxon countries do register. In fact none. That is why the have immigrant problems. They dont know who is an immigrant.

In Oz, when you go to vote, the polling booth has a list of all registered voters in your electorate. They look up your name, then cross it off the list. I haven't read of any major issues either way. (we have compulsory voting, BTW...)

I think if you reside in a country, work and pay taxes you should get a vote - you have just as much a stake in that society as any native-born citizen. Prisoners should also get the vote imo.

I haven't read much Aristotle. What I have has been from popularizes of science who seem to believe he was the more correct of the two.

well, the thing is that Socrates was a plain man of the people (as much as you can do when you're part of a warrior aristocracy), he did not develop big theories, he just asked a lot of questions until he cornered an acceptable answer, Plato did not really understand him, and put some trashy highbrow utopian ideas in his mouth in addition to the dialogues he actually transmitted to us, Aristotle inherited the big theory thing from Plato, and you would never guess that he's just 1 link away from Socrates... but yeah, Aristotle is more coherent than Plato.

I don't think buying your way in sounds very sensible. At least not at such modest amounts, and certainly not so vague.

you're wrong there... the Muslims had something when they had the muslims being citizens and not paying taxes, and the other people paying taxes to be protected by the muslim aristocracy... citizens who have really served the country, such as military or civil service should vote and be exempt for taxes, while the private sector should be taxed for service rendered and happy that motivated people run the country for them.

But we don't want to make it too difficult for people to vote, for them to buy a franchise if/when one isn't granted automatically by dint of profession, contract, or heredity etc, and people who've paid for a share of the franchise might feel more inclined to take it seriously and engage in democratic processes knowing they had a real, tangible, financial stake in the system.
