Here in town catalytic converter theft skyrocketed this year. With colder weather cars parked alone, like my birding areas, with no camera nearby, are targeted. You need to be able to crawl under the car with a tool to cut it.
Elsewhere:
In a tweet, the Salisbury Police Department said the most commonly reported thefts were among Toyota Priuses, Honda vans and pickup trucks. SUVs are also among the most targeted vehicles. They also reported two U-Haul moving trucks had converters stolen this year.

Catalytic Converter Thefts: We've had 45 reported catalytic converter thefts since January. Vehicles that have had the most thefts are: Toyota Prius, SUV's of all makes, Pick up Trucks of all makes, van's (mostly Honda), passenger cars (mostly Honda), 2 U-Haul trucks.

Man shoots city fox about 3 miles away from me:
A woman called Lincoln Police at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday: She’d heard a gunshot and then watched her neighbor retrieving a dead fox.
Officers responded to the 5300 block of Sumner Street, just a couple of blocks from Bryan East Campus and across the street from Holmes Elementary School.
They talked to a 39-year-old man — “and found evidence that he shot and killed a fox in the backyard near his chicken cage,” said Officer Erin Spilker.
Police believe he used a .22-caliber rifle to kill the fox, and he was cited on suspicion of discharging a firearm when unsafe to do so, a misdemeanor, Spilker said.

Actually, to me that is a rational and reasonable use of a firearm, if he was careful to ensure that there was no chance of the bullet going beyond his boundaries. Fine him one dollar, and move on...

Yes the court is here. https://www.ned.uscourts.gov/attorney/j ... -m-gerrard
so the man will do jail time in a state where he did not land.

A woman's body was found at one of my birding areas. I avoided it for a few weeks, though I drove past its camp ground. It was this woman.

One more: "high rate of speed." Isn't that...speed? If not "acceleration."
At approximately 11:25 p.m. a trooper observed a Buick Regal traveling at 115 miles per hour on Interstate 80 near Grand Island, at mile marker 317. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and continued westbound at a high rate of speed. The trooper initiated a pursuit.
Buffalo County Sheriff’s Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a stop, near mile marker 275. Troopers was then able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.
The driver, Andrew Willard, 36, of Bristol, Wisconsin, was arrested for felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, and numerous traffic violations. He was lodged in Hall County Jail. The Kearney Police Department also assisted in this incident.

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?
The Silver State. 1894.
