I wonder if they had time to get any tsunami warnings? Japanese are so well prepared, that I think that many people left after the quake, when they know that there is a chance of tsunami coming along. Unlike tourists in thailand 2004.

I'm a tsunamai victim!! (I just noticed the mispelling in the title
)
It's the truth! We had a bit of excitement today down at our Boat Harbor here in Santa Cruz. The eight foot surge slammed a couple of boats rather badly, and took out a pretty important pedestrian bridge in the Capitola area. Well, I just happened to be down in that area at a veterinarian appointment when it all came down, and it turned into utter bedlam down there. It took me three hours to travel what usually is a 20 minute drive home, with my little sick Bobo trapped with me in the car. Incredible we are affected so far away.
...tsunami swept ashore today in Northern California, destroying harbors from Santa Cruz to the Oregon border.

I got to looking at other natural disasters on Wikipedia (probably a mistake

The one that upsets me is teh Papua New Guinea Tsunami a few years back. They didn't rebuild any of the schools because there weren't any children. They were all swept away. ALL.
