Talk of war always invokes patriotic fervour. But, as a wise man once said, and which we instinctively all recognise, patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Trump unwilling to spend Medicaid money on drug addicts:
Trump, however, gave no sign of rethinking his approach to funding these public-health initiatives. Instead, before he upended the briefing with his threat to consume North Korea with “fire and fury,” he had focussed his remarks on finger-pointing and punitive measures.

As George W Bush’s speechwriter put it this weekend, it is one of the “difficult but primary duties” of a political leader to speak for a nation in traumatic times. A space shuttle explodes, a school student goes on a shooting spree, a terrorist flies a plane into a building, a hurricane floods a city. When such things happen, Michael Gerson wrote in the Washington Post, “It falls to the president to express something of the nation’s soul.” Yet if Donald Trump’s words about the violent white extremist mobilisation in Virginia on Saturday – which an under-pressure White House was desperately trying to clarify on Sundayyesterday – are an expression of its soul, America may be on the road to perdition.

Watched Al Gore's new Inconvenient movie. It was pretty clear on election day Trump would cancel the Paris deal.

GOP tea party: cut taxes
/For many in Trump’s White House, tax reform is the greater priority. Short and other senior aides have met with senators and important outside constituencies, like the network of groups backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch.

Tim Phillips, who leads Americans for Prosperity, one of the largest groups in the Koch network, said his donors are most focused on that, and outside groups say the administration has seemed far better prepared on tax reform than on health care.

“Our view is it’s all about tax reform,” said Scott Reed, chief strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Success would help turn the page on all the drama of the White House so far.” /

They'll get it in the end too. Massive cuts in revenues wont support massive spending commitments - in the end the poor will just have to be worked and taxed harder. But that's OK - after all, we're all in it together aren't we?

John Oliver nails it on the noggin:

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Well it seems someone did a quick calculation on where the most votes lay for next time. 'Condemnation' duly and dutifully made.

He sounded pretty sincere to me. He probably though it went without saying in the first place - he's not very politically savvy.
