Trump hasn't figured out that this isn't a conflict of egos he can win, even if he wins. Twitter tolling unstable regimes isn't going to lead to anything remotely resembling a responsible response let alone a resolution everyone can live with.

As I understand it, the latest threat from NK was to fire some missiles towards Guam, but aimed to land in the ocean 40 or 50 km away, presumably in international waters. This would demonstrate an ability to hit Guam (given the required accuracy). Various nations (including the US) have conducted missile tests that splash down in international waters, so this would not be technically a breech. However, I could imagine that a missile heading in the direction of Guam could trigger an immediate and violent reaction from the US, no doubt leading to many tens of thousands of casualties on the peninsula.
