Already, Europe is panicking over the idea that countries like Germany might have to purchase expensive American Liquefied Natural Gas which then has to be painstakingly shipped to Europe rather than the cheap and comparatively local alternative of Russian pipeline gas.

Russia could, therefore, tempt Europe with the carrot of cheap energy and goods while combining it with the stick of demanding Europe drop its own sanctions against Russia, most of which date back to 2014. Russia already has sympathetic ears in southern Europe on this matter and Germany may well be moving in this direction due to America’s blatant disregard for northern European concerns.

It's been estimated that the taxpayer paid $96m for presidential travel during Obama's 8 years in office - that's $12m a year. It's also been estimated that each of Trump's weekend trips to Florida cost $3m, meaning his 7 trips to his Mar-a-lego resort have cost the taxpayer $21m. Add in his 4 weekends at his New Jersey golf resort and the 8 trips he's made to his golf resort in Virginia and the president's travel expenses so far are probably more than double Obama's average for a year.

I'd love to see those estimates.

The $3 estimate for trips to Mar-a-Lago is not based on the costs added up for his trip to Mar-a-Lago. It's based on GAO estimates of Obama's trip to Palm Beach in 2013, which was deemed not comparable because it included at least one other stop and stayover, in Chicago, which significantly added to the cost of the total trip. That's per the Associated Press. Moreover, Obama's $97 million calculation was limited solely to purely leisure activities, so it did not include trips that included both golf and business, for example. And, some ofTrump's trips to Mar-a-Lago have been for government business, like entertaining foreign leaders. Obama made similar trips to other locations, and those were not included in the $97 million count.

Judicial Watch, who estimated the $97 million for Obama's travel costs, estimate the Mar-a-Lago trips as each costing $1,000,000, and that not all of those trips would county as leisure trips.

Why not do your own research and see what you think the cost might be? A task not made any easier by the lack of official figures. The cost for Obama's Chicago-Florida trip was $3.6m btw. Trump has made a number of similar stopovers on his way to play golf.

The publicly available numbers are not particularly helpful. It's expensive for Presidents to travel, that is true. It was in 2008 through January, 2017, and it is still expensive today. Apparently, some of the trips to Mar-a-lago involved the President's duties, and this trip to NJ is a "working vacation." It's impossible, really, to know for sure what to believe, and the costs are always clouded in politics and incompetence. It's disappointing to see the President coming anywhere close to anything involving a vacation. They should know that his comments during the campaign about not taking vacations would be thrown in his face. He should simply stay put in Washington, unless there is a need to leave. He should have tried to set the record for fewest vacation days in office. But, it doesn't look like he's going that route. Very disappointing.
