I disagree. It is reasonable to suppose that natural selection may have produced a tendency to be wary, even fearful of the "other" as opposed to in-group bonding and solidarity. This seems to be a tendency in hominid social groups in general. This tendency (calling it an "instinct" would be a misuse of terminology) may be a component in the development of racist attitudes, but is not in itself a sufficient cause of full-blown racism.mistermack wrote:Racism is a natural instinct. Just because you choose to suppress it, doesn't make you a non racist.
We're all racists.
You can act straight all your life, but if you fancy the same sex, you're still gay.
Same with racism.
There's nothing wrong with being born gay, and there's nothing wrong with being born racist.
In any case, there is no right or wrong. All there is is the current consensus. Or rather, the consensus of those who have the power to control the indoctrination of the masses.
Since race is an abstract fluid grey area, not a scientific black and white, the racist instinct behaves differently in every individual.
Most of the people on this site who argue against racism hold that view because they've been indoctrinated in a certain way. By the continual drip drip that you were fed at school, and are now being fed by the media. If you'd been born in Germany 100 years ago, you would be far more racist. That's just a fact. If you really can kid yourself that you would not have been racist, you're just a self-made idiot.
Not all people in Nazi Germany acted racist, but then again, not all had the same upbringing.
In any case, when things are going well, it's fairly natural to say, "live and let live".
But when things are going badly, really badly, then the true nature of people starts to come out.

Your ancestors 20,000 years ago were likely to not just kill, but to actually eat strangers, and your descendants in 100 years time would do the same, without the benefit of the modern culture, which has developed over the last few thousand years.JimC wrote: I disagree. Whatever. Point is, you're just making shit up without providing any evidence. That's just a fact.mistermack wrote:The common version is ex rectum.Seabass wrote:Svartalf wrote:ad rectum? surely you mean ab ano, you mean the origin rather than the target, right?Seabass wrote:Argumentum ad rectum...
Your effort is not just funny, it's ironic.
Forgive me, but this seems to make it very easy to call everyone racist.JimC wrote:Some racists are self-admitted, like our very own Tyrannical, and spokesmen for groups whose raison d'être is to pursue racist policies. Membership of such groups would be pretty telling, also.
More generally, if people are advocating that people who they perceive to be a different race to themselves be treated differently (almost always for the worse), then they are probably racist. Clearly there are exceptions, such as stating that people with white skins have a greater need to use sunscreen than others, but they are fairly trivial...
Excellent argument that racism is social rather than genetic.mistermack wrote:Most of the people on this site who argue against racism hold that view because they've been indoctrinated in a certain way. ... Impressive how you just ignored everything everyone just told you refuting your faulty understanding of genetics and evolution.mistermack wrote:Racism is a natural instinct. Just because you choose to suppress it, doesn't make you a non racist.

Oh right, understanding how genetics and evolution work is being "indoctrinated". You sure you aren't a creationist? Most of the people on this site who argue against racism hold that view because they've been indoctrinated in a certain way.
