I often do that. I don't like flying the tiny commuter planes, the ones with one seat on one side and two on the other. We have a small airport, so we have those. I like the planes with one aisle but some three seats each side. A lot of the smaller planes are Bombardier.

Pick a different airline. I never fly much anyway. I take the train in Europe. Never use Ryanair to Ireland. Aer Lingas uses only Airbus.

The government fliers draw a line of distinction between single and multi-engine aircraft. Seems a sensible place to put a thumb-rule.

Dutch authorities are investigating after a Boeing 747-400 cargo plane dropped engine parts shortly after takeoff from Maastricht airport.

The Longtail Aviation Flight 5504 cargo plane scattered mostly small metal parts over the southern Dutch town of Meerssen on Saturday, causing damage to cars and lightly injuring one woman, local media said.

Boeing referred questions to Dutch authorities.

“Our investigation is still in a preliminary phase, it is too early to draw conclusions,” a spokeswoman for the Dutch Safety Board said on Monday.

Witnesses said they saw fire in one of the engines of the plane, which landed safely at Liège airport in Belgium, 19 miles (30km) south of Maastricht.

The cargo plane, which was supposed to fly from the Netherlands to New York, used a Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine, a smaller version of one on a United Airlines Boeing 777 involved in an incident on Saturday.

No they just put the fat people in the single seats and the regular people two by two. We always have fat people in America.

I always thought it would be a practical approach for airlines to charge 1000lbs for each passenger, to be reduced if they wish to demonstrate that they (and their bag) genuinely weighs less.

Too many people are convinced that they should be hoisted into the air for the same price as someone half their weight.
