What? The US administration supported Cuba despite the fact that Batista was its dictator, and you are trying to tell me that on the day Castro ousted him, the US blockaded Cuba because Castro is a dictator? :hilarious:

I was quite clear, Seraph. The US embargoed Cuba because Castro took Cuba over by military force AND seized the property of American citizens. In 1992, the US enacted a new law and its policy became that sanctions would remain on Cuba so long as the Cuban government continues to refuse to move toward "democratization and greater respect for human rights." Under the Clinton Administration, the embargo was strengthened, and Bush and Obama both have continued the embargo.

Many countries - including those like Britain, France, Holland, Spain, Portugal, etc. have "supported dictators" in the 20th century. Not sure how that's relevant to their desires to do the right thing half a century later. But, you'll explain it to me, I'm sure.

:mehthis: haha coito

of course, the US has supported many "dictators" in the last 50-60 years. The whole "democratize" blah blah blah is such bullshit ALMOST anyone can see that. It's about whether or not said "dictator" bows down to US pressure, this has been proved over and over again.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Once again - you have to personalize a discussion. It's obvious you've got that "I've gone to a couple years of college, so I know it all" mentality -- you're a cliche'.

Can you please stop with the personal attacks. Obviously a sign of weakness. :hilarious:

Besides that, talk about cliche. No one has EVER on ANY thread I have EVER read EVER said that Cuba was a paradise (besides the beaches and weather). Shangra-la? Everything free? Again, the oldest most boring argument from confused anti-Cubans and free market/liberal democratic religious types. Talking to these people and all they can come up with is "ohhh where's the workers paradise" like anything other than an unachievable utopia (which is funny because thats how they see free market capitalism) is somehow a failure.

Nine Cubans, fleeing a better life in Cuba and risking their lives to avoid superior Cuban health care, were picked up adrift at sea the other day by a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2011/ ... cubans-sea
