There are 2 sexes. Mostly, you can just look into your own crotch area. If you aren't one, you are the other.

There are very rare cases of intersex, but they are like eleven-fingered peolpe - an aberration.

If you think someone can change their sex by fiat, surgery or wishing, you are the one who should provide citation.

It's really quite simple.

Gender is just attention-whoring for the most part. People could keep that part of their lives private, and it wouldn't be a concern of anyone outside of their intimate relationships.

Some on the severely politically correct branch of the left deny that any potential differences between males and females, physical or mental are down to biology.

Where are all these people? I've only ever seen one person who maintains this position.

I've certainly read stuff by some feminists (I'm sure a minority, BTW) who stick to the classic sociological line that humans are a blank slate, and that any differences (other than purely anatomical) between men and women are down to socialisation (often "bad" socialisation via the patriarchy)

The world of gender and sexuality is much more complicated than you seem to be able to grasp. Being gay is very different to wanting to change one's gender. Now, I appreciate one thing that you were clear about, your distaste for the fundamentalist christian "pray away the gay" nonsense, but you are in error if you see trans people making their personal decisions as some sort of lefty equivalent...
