Glad to see a big section on civil liberties in there, especially the scrapping of ID cards. I don't need to have to prove who I am to every jackanape in a uniform, thank you very much.

I foresee a thread on ID cards in the near future. :demon:

Anyone thinking of starting a thread on ID cards will have to register biometric information with me first.

Overall, that actually looks better than I expected.

I'll need to read it through a couple more time I think - but at first glance not too bad.

I'm a bit disappointed about the Political Reform bit though - Alternative Vote is just an unproportional messy stepping stone, even if it's in the right direction. STV is what we really want. But if AV just ends up causing complications then it'll be used as an excuse to never try PR again.

My hope is that this 5 year coalition goes well, and come the next election, the Lib Dems (having had 5 years leadership experience and media attention) will get a sizable increase in number of votes, once a again sparking the PR debate. For now though I think we'll have to settle for AV.

ID cards are all very well for those Continental, cabbage and snail-eating republics but the compulsory carrying of such a thing must, to a true Briton, be a monstrous imposition that cannot be endured.

"The Quiet Revolution"

That's what I'm calling this parliament. You heard it from me first. Don't you forget it. :eddy:

A nice, quiet, orderly revolution, with regular tea-breaks and perhaps a Kit-Kat?

I can sign up for that.

I'm far too cynical about politics to believe this will come anything close to a revolution. We may get some small concessions from the government, but I seriously doubt they'll be willing to fairly re-order the game which keeps them in power.

Of course I hope you're correct, and if you are, great. Roll on the revolution.

Good. I already have a d/licence and a passport. And as for biometric data, I carry my fingers and eyes with me where ever I go. :coffee:

Excellent news! Start cutting back on the massive over-surveillance in this country and we might make real progress.

Some of the comments on that article are priceless:

COULD IT BE!?! We are actually rolling back the nazi-socialist filth and their policies already? I'll believe it when I see it!

There's plenty of communists and socialists in our government that won't like this at all! Soviet style national ID cards have always been high on their agenda
Apparently Labour are not only Nazis, but their sworn enemy the CPSU. :funny: Got to admire the talent of Labour in managing to achieve such a remarkable balance. The poster on the other hand failed harder than a creationist.

There education policy looks a little thin so far. Looks like I'm out of a job. Fine by me!
