maybe in 50 years, if ever... France renouncing its own army and control over the nuclear weapon, yeah, right, even a thrice damned fool like hollande would not do it, and he won't stay in office long enough to do such a thing anyway. Nobody else will follow such an extreme policy.
People moan that the EU is not democratic and ruled by unelected bureaucrats. The only way to do away with that would be having a real European legislature elected by the European people directly and a real European government elected by that European parliament or directly by the European people.

What alternatives are there?

Giving up on the European idea completely? Not good.
Keeping the status quo, where the big countries like Germany and France have such a powerful influence exactly because decisions are made in backrooms by negotiations between the national governments? That is exactly what people criticize about the EU!
federation, Swiss style...

As I said, I don't see many of the European countries, France least of all, renouncing their military privileges... worse, I see traditional allies/former colonies of EU states pushing for every EU member still keeping their own foreign policies... Just think of Africa without the help of former colonist states but having to deal only with Brussels... pure chaos.

Parliament is directly elected by EU members citizens using PR. Powers are being transferred be it slowly from the commission to the parliament so eventually it will have total control.

You are aware, that the individual cantons in Switzerland have very little autonomy? Actually much less than for example the states have in the USA. There is a common military, a common criminal law, common tax codes, common social security, etc.

Wel, they sure can't be expelled per article 50 unless they take the initiative... now, the next tory PM might face problems with his fan base if he doesn't take said initiative.

In the meantime, Britain has made itself no friends and will be treated as the red headed step child it's been behaving like.

Any goodwill the EU members had from Britain has now evaporated that is for sure. Britain is going to be black balled from the club.

Britain will be perfectly all right outside the EU.

The stock market and pound are already creeping back up, and those who panicked and sold have lost money.

They keep banging on about "will Britain get access to the single market?".

I haven't heard anyone ask, "will the EU get access to the British Market?" which is an equally valid question. The two questions go hand in hand.
And the obvious answer to both is yes, both will get access. Just as the USA buys and sells in Europe without free movement of Labour.

If the EU said there will be NO access for UK firms, then the UK will grant NO access to EU firms.
Is that going to happen? Is it bollocks. It's a complete heap of shite, designed to scare the Scots and possibly other EU nations into submission. But it's total bluff.

The British government's first words have to be "free movement of labour is not on the table".
The silly cunts have been shouting that "out means out", so that's what they have to get.

What they are trying to say is, "out means out for you, but not for us".

Yes, out means out.
Now, do you want to sell us your Renaults and BMWs? You had better make us an offer then.

Y'all can join the United States. Just think - guns, bourbon, grits, what's not to like? Have to get rid of some of those Muzzies, but we can send some redneck boys over with crosses and pointy hats, send 'em back to Africa or wherever. Plus we'll get cheap HP sauce and Marmite. It's a win-win.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The maths are that plenty of people in Europe need British customers. More in fact than British need European.
Europe is bigger than Britain. But would European voters enjoy taking the hit?
Ask the Greeks. Ask the Italians. Ask the Spanish. Ask the French.
Ask the Germans working for Mercedes, or Volkswagen, or BMW.

It's not going to happen. There has to be a deal. That applies to both sides of the Channel.

Can one side dictate the terms? Absolutely not. If the prospect of no deal and no trade is so appalling, then the deal has to happen.

On the movement of labour, the deal is quite easy. We choose who comes here, and you choose who goes there. The trading market has nothing to do with it.

They managed to con Norway into accepting movement of Labour. But Norway isn't bursting at the seams. It was like getting a cow to accept eating grass.
The same won't apply to the UK.

Still dont get it do you. There will be no more favours to England. The EU does not need England. 45% of British trade is with the EU compared to only 17% from the EU often of goods that can easily be sold elsewhere. Britain is fucked. Just watch the City of London go down the plug hole. The noise will be heard world wide.

Actually, the city has bought up other Stock Exchange locations, just to make sure it DOESN'T go down the plug hole, even in such dire circumstances.
