Romney lies again...

Romney picks up incorrect story about Jeep production moving to China

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2012 ... /210260402
Washington — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney told a rally in northern Ohio on Thursday night that Chrysler was considering moving production of its Jeep vehicles to China, apparently reacting to incorrect reports circulating online.

"I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state Jeep — now owned by the Italians — is thinking of moving all production to China," Romney said at a rally in Defiance, Ohio, home to a General Motors powertrain plant. "I will fight for every good job in America. I'm going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it's fair America will win."

Romney was apparently responding to reports Thursday on right-leaning blogs that misinterpreted a recent Bloomberg News story earlier this week that said Chrysler, owned by Italian automaker Fiat SpA, is thinking of building Jeeps in China for sale in the Chinese market.
Except they're not planning on moving all production to China.

Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China.
I'm sure we'll see an apology from Romney soon.

So, because a serious news article was wrong, and Romney mentioned it, he's lying? He intentionally tried to deceive his audience that the Jeeps were moving, when he knew otherwise? Typical Democrat bullshit.

And, is it even wrong?

Bloomberg interview, Jeep's president said the automaker plans to restore Jeep production in China, suspended in 2009, and is considering making all Jeeps in China. "Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers' operations in the region," reported the business wire service. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-2 ... limbs.html

So, the President of Jeep says on October 21, that the automaker did have plans to restore Jeep production in China, and Romney is "lying" for mentioning it because Chrysler later walked it back?
Fiat, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region.
Fiat is in “very detailed conversations” with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (2238), about making Jeeps in the world’s largest auto market, said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia. Chrysler hasn’t built Jeeps there since before Fiat took control in 2009.

“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”
Chrysler, which entered an alliance with Turin, Italy-based Fiat as part of its U.S. government-backed bankruptcy, is relying on growth in China to counter weakness in Europe’s auto market. The automaker is targeting 500,000 annual sales outside North America by 2014, more than triple its overseas deliveries in 2009.
Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China.
Here is the Detroit News article where they walk this back: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2012 ... n-to-China

Here -- they say that the Bloomberg article, which Romney was referencing, was "accurate." Quote unquote.

What the article tries to say, though, is that "while accurate," the story has been picked up by right-leaning websites who were misrepresenting it. However, Romney's quoted statements are within the "accuracy" of the statements reported in the Bloomberg article. It's not a sure thing that they will be making Jeeps in China, but they are "considering" it. So, what is the big deal?

Nothing. There were Jeeps previously manufactured in China. It may happen again. However, the issue of the propriety of them being manufactured there is different than accusing Romney of accurately reporting that he read a news article reporting X, and there actually being a news article from reputable source with verified quotes, which were found to be accurate -- and then calling the guy a liar.

Well, I suppose you can take your pick CES. Either Romney lied, or he's incredibly intellectually lazy.

Jeep stated that they're planning on expanding production into China. That makes sense, as their sales in China are increasing. Bloomberg gets the story wrong and reports that Jeep is moving production to China (something totally different). Romney grabs the story and parrots it in stump speeches, obviously never bothering to check its accuracy (or perhaps they did check it, but ran with it anyways because they're behind in Ohio).

Liar or lazy. Pick 'em.

Obama is a Christian, now? Jeez... folks around here keep saying he's really an atheist.
I'm not a fan of Obama and he goes to church, so that's good enough for me.
Coito ergo sum wrote:
And, he's a "capitalist?" Obama?
Yes of course he is. He might not be a rapacious plutocrat, but he's still a capitalist. Unless you have evidence that the last 4 years have been an overt experiment in redistribution of wealth or beneficent dictatorship or something.
Coito ergo sum wrote: Based on the identities and backgrounds of the 44 folks who have occupied the Presidency, it seems we don't do too bad in terms of Horatio Alger stories.

The "anyone can be President" line is a statistical red herring. In about 229 years we've had 44 Presidents, so the likelihood of any particular person becoming President is very low indeed. Assuming there have been somewhere between 500,000,000 Americans eligible to be President in the last 229 years, if they all had an equal chance at becoming President, the chances would be 0.0000000088 . So, no person can really claim that they have any substantial likelihood of becoming President, at least not until they have achieved a mountain of notariety and political clout in life.

But, many of our Presidents were born poor, lower and middle class. I daresay, we stack up pretty well against most other Western industrialized countries in that regard.
So? We are not talking about about Europe and the landed's influence, we're talking about the U.S. where it's politicians harp on about how it is "the greatest democracy in the world" and all that other USA is teh awesomest rhetoric. I'm pointing out that it's as much a joke as the Soviets making a similar claim.

That's not the choice. The Detroit News Article that factchecked Romney SAID the article Romney referred to was -- and I quote -- "accurate." The announcement was by Fiat, which owns Chrysler, and they said they are evaluating building Jeeps in China, and that is accurate. Nobody has said different.

The Bloomberg Article was described by the Detroit News article, which checked on the issue, as "accurate." Romney clearly -- clearly -- explicitly stated in the speech we're talking about that he "Read an article" just that day or very recently that said what he described. You can't be any more accurate than that. The Obama camp is just doing its typical dishonest deflection.

Obama Administration insulting women by suggesting women "lose their virginity" by voting for Obama. http://washingtonexaminer.com/article/2511779 Copies Vladimir Putin advertisement doing the same thing.

Obviously, this demeans women by suggesting by implication that their vote is based on sexual or emotional attachment to the candidate as "the right person." I.e. - vote for whose dick you'd rather have inside you.

This won't be characterized as insulting by Democrats or by the mainstream media, of course, but just think of it this way -- think if Romney or a Republican put out an ad like this, suggesting that women lose their virginity by voting for the GOP candidate. I have a feeling the reaction would not be very favorable.

I want to know before we go any further....are you truly standing by the above as a full and accurate description of this issue?

Jeeps are penis extenders? When did that happen? It's basically a chick car, or for "free spirits" who like to drive it out on a beach.

Penis extenders are Corvettes and such.
