The amount of money being wasted on online gambling must be astronomic. You only have to look at who is doing all of the advertising on tv to work that out.

The gamblers are not just paying the bookies, they are paying for all the intensive advertising as well.
And they pay for the free tv programs that I'm watching. And the sponsorship deals.

Look at the gigantic wage packets of premiership footballers. All paid for by people who have hardly two pennies to rub together.

I would ban the fucking lot, and make it illegal for banks to make any payments to any gambling company.

I think I posted about this before, but in our zoology department in the 70's, graduate students would have a glass container, into which they would put 2 examples of various nasty invertebrates, including a variety of spiders (including funnelwebs), scorpions, centipedes etc., then bet on the result of the inevitable fight to the death (often followed by a victory feast...). Funnelwebs, unsurprisingly, were almost always numero uno...

Wouldn't fly these days, the ethics committee would have their balls...

Gambling here is controlled by the constitution. It is illegal without a licence which is almost impossible to get. We dont have bookies or online betting from Dutch companies. People who want to bet have to use international betting sites but they have no protection. Advertising on tv is forbidden.

If they added a ban on any bank payments to international gambling sites, it would be better still.
If they made online gambling illegal, then payments would be aiding a crime, so would also be illegal.

Gambling ads during sport here has been a big issue for the last few years. Some stronger regulations have been imposed, but it's not enough IMO. All gambling ads should be banned. And advertising in general should be banned during any kids tv shows. It's exploitative.

I agree with that. On public broadcasting they are banned but on commercial it is a different story but sweet ads are banned.
