It looks like he can. I think Nixon did something similar when investigations were closing around him.

Hopefully Trump can an appoint an FBI head that ignores the silly unfounded Russia lies, and goes after more important things, like Hillary emails :{D

He was doing both. Trump was perfectly happy with him while he didn't know he was investigating him. This is proto-fascism. Good luck, America... :?

We'll have parades of tanks and rocket launchers next with the military doing the Goose-step past the White House. I'm sure it's crossed his tiny mind.

I think the firing of Comey could backfire. The guy must have loadsa information to, er, 'let slip'.

To be honest, I honestly think nothing is ever going to happen to this guy. He's going to roll back the environmental cause at a time we can't afford it. Put American troops on the ground causing more death and more veterans. His economic policies are likely to lead to another recession. Millions of Americans will die because they have no insurance. And he's going to enrich him and his at the expense of the tax payer. And nothing will happen because the World isn't just. There's no such thing as karma. There will be no repercussions for the suffering he is going to inflict.

It was nice to get hopes up for a sec, but reality has sunk back in.

With the Russian investigation about to start questioning witnesses under oath the people under investigation have just sacked the person investigating them while he was out of the office.

There's no other way to view this, even if the paperwork implies that Comey faultless be sacked for not drawing the right conclusion about Hillary's emails.

The operation of the FBI comes under the remit of the Justice Department.

Donald Trump Fires FBI Director Comey

Post by Forty Two » Wed May 10, 2017 2:12 pm

Donald Trump followed the advice of top Democrats and fired FBI Director Comey. Senator Chuck Schumer (D - NY) said on November 2, 2016, "I do not have confidence in him any longer," and Comey's letter to Congress about the Clinton email scandal "appalling." Also on that date, Representative Nancy Pelosi (D - California) pondered "Maybe he's not right for the job." Democratic operative James Carville suggested that Comey was part of a Republican conspiracy with Russian intelligence to install Trump as President.

Senator Harry Reid said on December 10, 2016,"This is not fake news. Intelligence officials are hiding connections to the Russian government. There is no question...Comey knew and deliberately kept this info a secret." Indeed, Senator Harry Reid (D - Utah) pointed out that there was "no question" that Comey "knew" and "deliberately kept secret" information about connections to the Russian government (thus helping Trump). When asked if Comey should resign, Reid said "of course, yes."

On November 3, 2016, Representative Steve Cohen (D - Tennessee) wrote "I called on FBI Director James Comey to resign his position after his recent communication with members of Congress regarding the bureau's review of emails potentially related to Hillary Clinton's personal email server."

Maxine Waters (D - California) said of Comey "The FBI director has no credibility."

And, Hank Johnson (D - Georgia) said "My confidence in the FBI director's ability to lead this agency has been shaken."

Now, these same Democrats are calling for a special prosecutor (Schumer) and investigations to address the horrible firing of this fine FBI Director who didndonuffin and was apparently well-qualified, and filled them all with "confidence."

Schumer now says, "If we don't get a special prosecutor, every American will rightfully suspect that the decision to fire #Comey was part of a cover-up." LOL, right, because Comey, who is part of the conspiracy, will now, after he is fired, be less likely to blow the whistle on the conspiracy of which he was part and parcel, and which led to Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate, to lose the election.

So, until Tuesday, Democrats wanted Comey out, and said he was part of the reason their candidate lost, and now it's "Nixonian" for Trump to fire Comey. Must be that Comey was not engaged in the nefarious deeds the Democrats accused him of, and Comey was actually working against Trump and Trump is trying to stop Comey in his good offices.... yeah yeah...that's it.
