To say that all military action is terrorist activity is insanely stupid and a downright lie and you know it. To disagree with military actions or policies is one thing and something worth discussing, but if you think that there's no need for a military and the US is just a big terrorist organization dedicated to murdering civilians, then you're mentally unable. I'm genuinely curious about how leftists with a clear dislike of American policies (and I have some issues myself) deal with the danger posed to the world (and enlightenment values) by rabid islamic fundamentalists. The world is not black or white - it is possible to be critical of a powerful world economic and military force, and also detest those they are fighting...

I resent your characterization of the whole "left" as being like Sand. I'm very left about most issues. I am extremely against the massive military spending we have, I take serious issue with many policies our military has, and I'm very distrustful of our entire military industrial complex we've got going on. We act like dicks, are unapologetic when we're clearly wrong, and generally try our hardest to be a giant, global bully.

That said, to equate all military activity with terrorist activity is ridiculous and no sane man honestly holds that position. The necessity of a military is patently obvious and the good that having a military does is observable every day.

I support Jim's question. How would you deal with aggressors and threats such as the Soviet Union was, or China, or North Korea, or half the damn countries in the Middle East? If we disband our entire military as you seem to suggest would be a good idea, how would you propose we maintain our sovereignty?
