It's no joke. I can confirm that they are exceedingly revolting.

Of course this riot as much about the police sending a message to the Tories.............
and in respect of the French, I doubt any politician will have the stomach to raise the retirement age above 62 any time soon. In the UK most folks will be dead 10 years before they get a pension - and not a whimper.

Funny how the same governments that denounce "violent" protests are the same governments who have no qualms about invading, violently, other countries. Same as "news" networks criticizing protesters but never saying a bad thing about dropping bombs on people. Just saw some footage of the protests, good work to all involved!

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

It's not a proper riot unless it's broken up by a cavalry charge

How many times have I asked you bastids: "Let me know when the revolution starts, because I'd feel a right twat storming the gates of Downing Street all by myself"?
OK, not quite Downing Street, but close enough.
Thanks to you, I missed it!

Nonsense.
It's about time there was some old-school civil disobedience. I'm tired of the fairy-crew shit-kicking their passivity. No matter what they protest, someone says "no" and they all go fucking home. Finally someone gives enough of a shit to take it a step further.
yes, totally agree. placard carrying protests are pointless and effect zero change. I remember protesting tuition hikes in university. Every year there was a protest and every year there were tuition hikes. fucking ridiculous.
Well, there are forms of civil disobedience, well thought out, that can grab media attention and mobilise things without mindless violence. There were some clever things done in the anti-Vietnam war protests in Oz (which I took part in) which eventually lead to a change in government and pulling the troops out.
There are too many protestors for whom violent protest is no more than a personal thrill...

Of course mindful violence is better than mindless violence. Still, "protesting" is ineffective. The Vietnam war was not stopped by westerners "protesting", it was stopped by the Vietnamese people themselves. This was
after over a million murdered Vietnamese.

So, the entire anti-war movement of the late 60s and early 70s was a complete waste of time, then?

Which is probably why she went unnoticed among a crowd of Christians.

Red, I know what you mean, they were a bloody determined lot, the Vietnamese, but it was more their own nationalist feelings and disgust at corruption in the south that helped them, rather than the purity of the communist cause.
That and not being burdened by Islam, like Iraq...

I don't doubt that in any way shape or form, we commies aren't puritans it isn't dogmatic like other political beliefs that's why many communists work with others on issues and causes with we share a common goal with.I'm sure that the Vietnamese comrades were no different.
Hell it might not be communist but a relatively prosperous unified and peaceful country can't be a bad outcome can it?.

I only held a petition, how British. These students, however, ruined the protest for everyone else. This is what happens when silly little members of the far left exploit an otherwise peaceful protest.

Why do you need violence at all? There are plenty of other ways to get the government's attention that are completely peaceful, and most of them would be much more effective.

Not sure violence is the way forward , I think it's counter productive .If protests are likely to end in a riot ,less people will turn up and I think News International love to show all anti-Gov demonstrators as mindless thugs.
selective ,targeted destruction of property I'm happy with , but if you expect to gain any sympathy for a protest from the people around then keep it save .
ten thousand people on a march and a fight with the riot squad can be ignored .A national strike and hundreds of thousands blockading westminster cannot .

I just checked some of the comments on the story at the Daily Mail website, it seems there's sympathy for the students even there.
