Oh. Well, in that case, I can only bow to your vast intellectual superiority.

Wow. You neoprogs are such great debaters. I can't believe it. The smug finger-pointing is just...what is the word?...oh. That' it. "Smug". How does one argue with smug finger-pointing?
To quote Daria, "Haaa haaa haaa." If you can read that in her voice, you're a Dariafag.
What the fuck is this neoprog shit? That's a genre of music, not a person.
And what finger pointing? Am I saying you're to blame, or he's to blame? No. I'm not pointing any fingers, I'm just saying that every country is a piece of shit and we need to fix ourselves. :hmph:
Tails Turrosaki wrote: But they are willing to die for their country. How absurd.
No, they are willing to take a small calculated risk in order to preserve the constitution and the system of laws which has produced one of the most free, most successful nations in the history of mankind. You know. The one with the longest-standing continuous government on the planet. You know. The only superpower in history that is also a democratic republic.
So, not willing to die for their country, but willing to die for their country... :ddpan: That's the risk you're talking about, right? Oh, just because there's a small probability of it makes it ALL better! Yeah, fuck no. If you were to press a button that had a billionth of a chance to destroy the Earth and everything on it, would you press it? I fucking hope not.

LOLOLOLOL!!! Are you implying that a democratic republic has no downsides? It's a "superpower"!?!? :funny: LOL, U SO FUNNEH

And all of these histrionics because I advised you to keep your ass out of the armed forces and your paws off the constitution.

Jeezus frikkin christ. What do you do when mummy won't let you go to the mall?

Uh, don't bother trying to figure the odds. You're clearly not up to it. Sitting there in the lap of unprecedented security and luxury, not having a freaking clue how you got so lucky.

Oh. Well, obviously, if it has a downside, shit-can it without further adieu. I had no idea it had a downside.

With your generation's mindset, it's probable you'll all get to see what a real downside looks like soon enough. But hey, I've got 7 more years before you reach the age of full irresponsibility. After that, all bets are off. Generation Z will be fucking up like a mountainous horde of fat-ass rubber ducks.

So you agree Fox News is a bad thing?
Oh NOES!!! Another irresistable debating tactic!!! He's put words in my mouth and I can't get them out!

Oh NOES!!! He's also conveniently changed the subject away from the kid's smug finger-pointing, and there's nothing I can do about it!!!
Actually, I was making fun of your entire paradigm. It's amusing to watch the Baggies wander in here.
I suppose that's as weak an excuse...er, I mean as "good" an excuse as any you might have come up with.

Except I'm not a baggie, and Fox has nothing to do with the kid's weak finger-pointing.

I'm American by birth, Canadian at heart :dq:

Personally, I dislike Nationalism, I am content with treating any human being as my equivalent, and I feel no need to divide our species on the basis of geography.
"Another aspect of the particulateness of the gene is that is does not grow senile; it is no more likely to die when it is a million years old than when it is only a hundred. It leaps from body to body in it's own way and for its own ends, abandoning a succession of mortal bodies before they sink in senility and death" -Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene p.34

No. I expressed my opinion and jokingly topped it off with something a drill instructor might say. The kid took umbrage and razzed me.

So, was I supposed to meekly bow down to His Teenage Highness?

If you want to be a child worshipper, go ahead. The little tykes will be more than happy to enslave you. But I'm not going to worship the little farts.

Well, this thread turned out to be more fun than hog tying an alligator.

Anyhow, as much as I don't like the idea of nationality and identifying oneself by country, it's a long time coming to be able to say "I'm from Earth". Problem with saying that is that we will tend to have different cultures in different areas, even if we have an overarching culture across the planet. US South compared to US North compared to US West, for example.

That said, I do wonder if it's alright to take pride in your country if you helped shape it. It seems taking pride in it is only ridiculous if you had no part in the making of it.

As it is, I feel patriotic in that I wish to help my country along as best I can.

Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.

As soon as I hear someone say they are a patriot then I assume they are a complete arse. That is usually the case. I am neither proud not ashamed of England.

Reasons to loathe England:

The Daily Mail
The BNP
Melanie Phillips
Richard Dawkins
Jeremy Kyle
The Royal Family and all associate hangers-on
Big Brother

Reasons to love England:

Darwin
William Shakespeare
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Queen
Oliver Reed
Newton
The NHS
Henry VIII
Emily Bronte
Sir Patrick Moore
Association Football
Cricket
Rugby
Monty Python
Stephen Fry
Hugh Laurie
Blackadder
The BBC
The Office
The Two Ronnies
Real Ale
Dame Ellen MacArthur
Spike Milligan
Douglas Adams
George Orwell
Michael Caine
Sarah Kane

I think we're okay.

Toontown is one of those jingos I was talking about, his unconditional support of the military, no matter what, is just moronic and dangerous. You can check out his posts on the old RDF Forum, it's all pro military.

I dislike nationalism and Patriotism they are divisive and petty. I guess my views on country and my state are benign laid-back parochialism.

The Pope was today knocked down at the start of Christmas mass by a woman who hopped over the barriers. The woman was said to be, "Mentally unstable."

Which is probably why she went unnoticed among a crowd of Christians.

What kind of "nationalism" and "patriotism"? We've pointed out that those two words cover a pretty broad spectrum of attitudes.

All kinds because they can be subverted by the powers that be to suppress dissent and promote racism et al.

You can do the same with "love", "passion", "desire", "enthusiasm", etc., then.
